My Story

 

Javi Perez is a multi-cultural Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 24 years of work experience in the field of Human Services. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Arizona State University in 1998, and his Master's degree in Social Work from San Diego State University in 2004. He describes his therapy and coaching style as adaptive, empathic, and solution-focused. In addition to his clinical experience, Javi has provided ASW supervision for other social work professionals seeking clinical licensure. Javi also has several coaching certifications and is a Reiki Master. He began his social work career in 2001 as a social worker with the County of San Diego, HHSA, Child Welfare Services (CWS). Over the course of 20 years with San Diego County, CWS, Javi held various roles, including: direct practice, facilitator for Team Decision Making Meetings, leadership, special projects, and supervision of staff. In 2015, Javi took the lead in developing the first internal skills-based coaching program for both new and experienced Child Welfare staff in San Diego County. He led this coaching program for 6 years, until joining UC Davis, Human Services in 2021. Over the past few years, Javi has provided coaching, training, technical assistance, curriculum design, and consultation for 28 counties and Human Services Organizations in the state of California. Javi is especially passionate about using evidenced-based practices in his work. In 2024, Javi returned to one of his primary passions of providing therapy and coaching to clients of diverse backgrounds to support them in reaching their life goals. Javi is also an advocate for using inclusive best practices in Child Welfare, Mental Health, Trauma Resiliency, and DEIBA spaces.
